En octobre 2005, Yahoo! s’associe à l’Internet Archive pour fonder l’Open Content Alliance (OCA), une initiative visant à créer un répertoire libre et multilingue de livres numérisés et de documents multimédia pour consultation et téléchargement sur n’importe quel moteur de recherche. Yahoo! indexe ces documents, qui sont consultables sur le site de l’Internet Archive (Text Archive) et trouvables par le biais de son moteur de recherche. La numérisation concerne essentiellement les livres du domaine public, pour éviter les problèmes de copyright auquel se heurte Google dans Google Book Search.
